GIST Sarcoma Life Raft Group Canada (LRGC) was pleased to welcome 31 attendees to our Toronto GIST LEARN event on Saturday, October 29, 2022. Our meeting was held at the Delta Hotels Toronto Airport & Conference Centre. Half attended in-person and half attended virtually via Zoom videoconferencing. Our Annual General Meeting took place at the beginning of the event.

Joanna Przybyl, PhD
Dr. Joanna Przybyl received a joint Ph.D. degree in biomedical sciences from KU Leuven, Belgium and Maria Sklodowska-Curie Memorial Cancer Center and Institute of Oncology, Warsaw, Poland. Her doctoral studies focused on identifying new prognostic and predictive markers for soft tissue sarcoma. She then joined the laboratory of Dr. Matt van de Rijn in the Department of Pathology at Stanford University, where she completed her postdoctoral training in computational biology. During her time at Stanford University, she initiated the multi-omic profiling studies of gastrointestinal stromal tumors. In 2021, Dr. Przybyl joined the Department of Surgery of the McGill University as an Assistant Professor, and the Cancer Research Program of the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) as a Principal Investigator. Dr. Przybyl is also an Associate Member in the Department of Pathology and the Experimental Medicine of the McGill University.

A GIST LEARN meeting is a free half-day event to provide support and education for those living with GIST. These events are open to GIST patients, caregivers, family members, friends, healthcare providers, and anyone who wishes to learn more about GIST.
